The trail up to my house can be difficult, particularly after the snows have been falling heavily for several days. I ran and renewed the trail with my snowmobile only a few hours earlier but a lot of snow has come down subsequently and Joe lost the trail in the dark as he tried to come up to the house.

I heard Joes’ machine and saw his lights and went out to help him, first by repeatedly running and renewing the trail. Together we were able to heave his machine out of the hole and to get it back up onto the packed track.

This is the transition room from the outside to the inside. The sign is half serious. In the late winter/early spring I have more than once opened the door and found myself too damn close to a grizzly bear….or two.
