Snow has been falling for a couple of days and so I have not been out the front door. But, this morning is cold, clear, and sunny so I prepare to go and shovel the front steps and bench again. Sig is interested and sniffs the below zero air. Each time he does so he gives a little cough/sneeze…the air is too cold to take in without doing so.

In winter, in this season of short cold days and long cold nights, Siegfried commonly sleeps 22 hours out of 24. It is a strategy that many animals and tribes resident in the northern latitudes have successfully used for thousands of years.
